A place or position in a group, series, or sequence:
A slot is an area on the wing of an airplane that has been designed to accommodate a control device such as an aileron or flap. The slot allows air to flow freely over the surface and reduces stall speed. It also provides a space for attaching struts that support the wings and control surfaces. A slot may also be a compartment within a machine, such as a mail-slot in a typewriter or the space for a coin in a vending machine. A slot may also refer to a position in an activity, such as the four-o’clock slot on the schedule for a TV program.
